How can I heated seats install?

How can I heated seats install?

Today, the range of car accessories is striking in its diversity and can satisfy almost any requirements of even the most avid car owner. This statement also applies to such an important part of the car as heated car seats. As we mentioned in our article about the types of heated seats, they are of two types:

  • internal or embedded
  • outer – covers and capes that dress on the seat itself

Before you install the heated seat kit yourself, you need to know that the external version has a rather low price and ease of installation itself. You just have to put the cover on the car seat, fix it with straps or rubber bands that are included in the kit, plug in and that’s it, your kit is completely ready for your work. Often, the heater is included in the cigarette lighter socket, options with a terminal connection are quite rare. However, this kind of organization of the heating of automobile seats has a number of drawbacks, which we would like to clarify:

  • fairly low electrical safety, and therefore a high risk of fire
  • uneven heating of the entire seat area
  • possible discomfort from the wires
  • ugly aesthetic appearance of the car

Let’s not forget about another possible disadvantage – drivers often connect other devices to the cigarette lighter socket, such as a DVR, GPS navigator, mobile phone chargers and so on. Some sellers in this case may offer you a splitter, as a way out of the strained situation. But again, you may encounter another problem, the heating element for seat heating consumes a significant amount of energy. Fuses that are installed in your car can not withstand the total load. As a result, there may be a risk of ignition of your car.

Built-in models of heated seat kit

This option can confuse car owners who decide to organize seat heating on their own, the difficulties associated with installation. Here we want you to be encouraged and cheered. Detailed recommendations we will try to present in this article. For self-installation you will need a minimum set of tools. In addition, the advantages of embedded systems compared to external, clearly play a big role:

  • You can arrange heating not only the front, but also the rear, passenger seats
not to disturb the appearance of the car, because all the wires and heating elements will be hidden under the seat casing.
  • Direct connection to the on-board network of the car, in this case, your cigarette lighter socket will be free for any other devices.

Since everything is simple and clear with external heating covers and capes, when installing them, in principle, no questions can arise, then we will describe the embedded models below.

How to install your own heated car seats?

First of all, prepare in advance all the necessary tools for installation. You’ll need :

  • set of car screwdrivers and wrenches
  • scissors and knife with replaceable blades
  • pliers
  • stamp
  • double-sided tape (it is often bundled, but it happens that its quantity is not enough)

First of all, before installing the kit, pay special attention to the placement of the control buttons for the heater itself, which are included in the kit. Sometimes, a situation arises when these buttons do not fit in size and may not lock into a regular place. Then you have to buy items specifically for your car model or choose another place for the buttons.
Then all the work must be performed as follows.

It is necessary to dismantle the car seat in which you intend to mount the heating system. And remove it from the cabin for further manipulation.

Then, you should disassemble the seat itself, that is, remove the headrest and all plastic parts. This must be done carefully so as not to spoil the appearance.

Remove the seat cover, which is usually fixed to the bottom with special rings or plates. Moreover, it is enough to remove a part in order to make room for the heating mats; there is no need to completely remove it.

Remove the trim from the back of the chair, for this manipulation you need to first remove the plastic bushings for the head restraints.

Evenly lay the heating mat on the foam base of the seat and mark its border with a marker.

If a thermal sensor is included in the kit, then it should immediately be fixed on the base.

On the lines that you marked should stick the strips of double-sided tape.

Then simply fix the heating mats on the back and seat of the chair. Be sure to pay attention to the next moment. The position of the wires for the seats does matter. For the driver’s seat, they should always be on the right, and for the passenger – on the left. Then output the power wires.

All other actions are done on the back of the scheme.

Install the casing on the foam base with the heating mat already attached. Where necessary, you can additionally use plastic clamps.

Install the plastic sleeves and the headrest, as well as all remaining plastic seat elements.

Install the seats in the car on the regular places and put the wiring to the place of power connection.

We also recommend to pay attention to the following advice. In order to avoid future breakdowns, it is necessary to lay the wires that go from the regulator to the heating mat is not a stretch, you should leave a margin in case you need to move the chair.

All manufacturers in the kit invest detailed instructions for connecting the heater to the on-board network of the car. This stage should not create any difficulties.

If you correctly assemble the entire circuit, the seat heating will only work when the engine is turned on, otherwise forgetting to turn off the system, you can detect a completely depleted battery in the morning.

How to make the heated seat kit yourself?

This feature is very rare in inexpensive cars. For many owners, it does not represent any interest, but if you have a large family, then heated rear seats will not be superfluous.

The installation system for heating the rear seats of the car is practically nothing different from the above. However, the power button, you can install both on the armrests and on the car door. This option allows passengers to independently regulate the heating temperature at their discretion.
